Some time soon after his thread with Maverick

[Like much of the student body after the Galra thing and Gunvolt and hell knows what else, Therion's been somewhat scarce of late. However, next time Adelaide's up late baking something, his quiet presence comes to linger in the kitchen. Eventually, he even speaks up.]

What's in the oven this time?

[Adelaide's surprised Therion spoke up, to be honest. She was just expecting him to stay quiet, and she was okay with that quietness, so it's just! Surprising!]

Uh.

[She looks in the oven.]

Some cookies. I haven't tried them before, but, you know, 'tis the season.

DOES HE NEED TO HAVE FEELINGS TO DO THINGS? GOD!!

Is it? Hadn't noticed.

[And, this isn't where he was going to take this conversation--if he took it anywhere at all--but, speaking of noticing...]

You never seem surprised when I turn up.

Hah, seriously? Everyone's making cookies.

[She tilts her head, looking at the counter for a moment before looking over at Therion.]

Do you want the truth or do you want me to make up a reason?

Sounds fake. Fake like the insinuation he has feelings.

[He knows that, goofball. This is his "I was being sarcastic" face. It is also his "are you kidding me" face.]

Truth is fine.

[Who? Asks people to lie to them??]

it's definitely not fake and neither are those feelings.

[He's a man of many faces. Adelaide laughs, turning away.]

I can sense your heartbeat. It's kind of hard to sneak up on someone who can do that.

[Did you forget she was a vampire, Therion?]

[No, he just hasn't memorized the Vampire Lore.]

Huh. Have to find a way around that one of these days.

[While she's looking away, he looks her over. How would he even tell if something weird happened between her and Maverick?]

Do you want to surprise me that badly?

[The oven dings, and Adelaide wastes no time in taking a peek at the cookies. They look done, so she sets them aside to chill.]

I'm not sure why you'd want to.

[bolderfell]

It's not that. It'd be useful against anyone else that could hear me.

[Other vampires, robots with enhanced sensors, superpowered rabbits... the usual adversaries of college-age students everywhere.]

Is it hearing? Or something else?

Uh huh.

[Who are you hiding from, Therion?]

It's mostly hearing, but it's not just that. I can just...feel it, you know? Like some sort of sixth sense.

Hey, were you... on either of those rescue missions?

Yeah, but I try not to pay too much attention to it if I can help it. It's kind of invasive.

[She blinks at the question, before nodding.]

Yeah. The one at Sumeragi...

[Maybe that's it, then. That'd explain why Maverick's so worried about her.]

I heard it was pretty bad.

[There is a KID in a COMA, Therion.]

...How are you holding up?

[transfusionem]

...Yeah. What they were doing to those kids is fucked up.

[Not to mention Gunvolt. She doesn't even know what happened there.]

I'm...doing okay, though. I mean. It sucks and I wish there was more that I could do, but...We did what we could.

[bolderfell]

Yeah. I'm sure you did a lot.

[Close on the heels of his conversation with Maverick, though, the words don't sound like enough. This isn't his forte, damn it. He adjusts his hoodie.]

I mean that. When a kid's in a situation like that, having someone step in... It would've meant a lot to them, is what I'm saying.

Well we managed not to kill anyone, so I'd consider it a success.

[Though she's not sure how Elise will adjust to normal.

She looks over at him, considering his words for a moment.]

...Yeah. I think we did the right thing.

[bolderfell]

Of course you did.

[Very matter-of-fact. He glances sidelong at her, then shrugs.]

It's something you're good at.

[She blinks at him, confused for a moment.]

I mean, I guess.

[bolderfell]

[Wow, don't look at him like that. He glances away again with a quiet huff.]

Just saying. Anyone with eyes can see it.

[She's gonna look at him how she wants, you're not the boss of her!]

[She rolls her eyes, laughing.]

[He eyes her as he chews a piece of cookie, then shrugs and goes on his merry way.]
